A Dallas man was arrested and charged Thursday in connection with the reported armed robbery of a Rains County bank.

Freddy Criss, 46, was taken into custody south of Greenville following a brief pursuit along U.S. Highway 69, according to Lt. Brian Alford with the Hunt County Sheriff’s Office.

“We were first notified at 11:20 a.m. that the First National Bank in Emory had been robbed,” Alford said.

Law enforcement authorities were told to be on the lookout for a red sedan believed to be northbound on the highway.

“All of our units were sent to U.S. Highway 69,” Alford said. “We encountered the suspect in front of Lone Oak High School.”

Criss was reported to have fled the scene following a traffic stop.

“The Lone Oak Police Department and Texas Highway Patrol joined in the pursuit,” Alford said.

The chase ended when Criss wrecked his car in the 2400 block of Highway 69, just south of the Greenville city limits.

He was taken into custody and transported to the Hunt County Jail, where he was arraigned on one count of aggravated robbery and had a $500,000 bond set.

“We recovered the cash which was taken in the robbery,” Alford said.

Criss was transferred to the custody of the Emory Police Department and was to be booked into the Rains County Jail.
