"Rains County Leader" denies pro/con ad on Beer/Wine sales

This web site tried to advertise in the "Rains County Leader" with the particular reason of giving the pros and cons of beer and wine sales. We were turned down.

When we asked the editor, Earl Hill, Jr. the reason, he said it was his prerogative and that he just didn't want to run it.

Mr. Hill has every right to run whatever he wants in his paper. We have to wonder, though, when there is a big election before the people for beer and wine sales in our city, why he would not want to publish research regarding the pros and cons of alcohol sales. And, also, why would he not want a venue for people to voice their opinions on that subject on this web site. Why would he not want to hear the opinions of the people of this community? Is this paper a sham?  Do we only get the news Mr. Hill wants us to read?  Or, does he have to answer to someone else who “really” runs the paper?

We wonder how Mr. Hill chooses which editorial comments go in the paper. Is this paper nothing but fluff? Mr. Hill's reasoning for not advertising this site cannot be because it would be in competition with the Rains County Leader since there is no charge to access this site. Any valid reason would suffice, other than he just doesn't want to do it. It would lead one to believe that there is some "other" reason.

Had Mr. Hill given a reason why he did not want to advertise the site, there would not be all these questions.  Mr. Hill not wanting to run the ad leads to question after question, none of which may have his true reason.  At least, now there is an answer as to why there is so much fluff and usually only one side of the story in the "Rains County Leader'.

Why wouldn't a newspaper want to give the citizens all available information and news, in order to make an informed decision.

Well. you can rest assured...emoryobserver.com will!
